Course Description:
In this age of feelings first, spiritual direction can be a helpful tool for gently leading people out of the confinement of their emotional subjectivity and into true community with the Church. At Right On Mission spiritual direction refers to a tender form of evangelistic outreach that is not formulaic or programmed, but rather is intimate and patient and empathic. At its best, spiritual direction is a deeply pastoral form of shepherding sheep, so to speak, by feeding them God's Word through merciful questions and affirmations. In this course students will practice offering spiritual direction that honors Jesus Christ as Lord of all.
Key Questions To Be Explored:
- What does it take to be a good spiritual director?
- How can Scripture be woven into open-ended, honest, redemptive questions?
- How does a person learn to listen to the Holy Spirit's guidance for someone else?
- What does it mean to be in true community with the Church?
